BRIEF HISTORY

Harry Albers was born in Holland in 1950. His father was an electrician, his mother a housewife. At two, after World War II when much of Holland was destroyed and the family was unable to find housing, the family immigrated to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and moved to Berkeley, California, in 1958. There he completed his secondary education. He attended the University of Santa Clara, 1969-71, majoring in mathematics and transferred to the University of California at Berkeley to complete his undergraduate education. In 1973, he earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. At UCLA Dental School, he did research, worked in community dental programs, served as student body president, and graduated with numerous awards, including many for leadership and public service.

Dr. Albers completed a general practice residency at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in San Francisco. He taught fixed prosthodontics at the University of California Dental School in San Francisco (1978-81) and taught operative dentistry at the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco (1979-86). In 1987, he limited his teaching to postgraduate dental education.

During the past eighteen years he has written several dental texts and lectured extensively on cosmetic dentistry, tooth-colored restoratives, direct and indirect veneers, bonded posterior restorations, fixed prosthodontics, temporization, impression techniques, and other aspects of clinical dentistry. His best selling text, Tooth Colored Restoratives, widely acclaimed as the most comprehensive clinical text on cosmetic and adhesive dentistry, is in its eighth edition and has been translated into two foreign languages.

Dr. Albers offers numerous lectures and hands-on courses through various educational groups worldwide. Currently his most popular course is a comprehensive thirty six day, four-year study group on all phases of cosmetic and adhesive dentistry at dental schools in California, Oregon, and Washington.

Over the past twenty-five years Dr. Albers has helped organize 550 dentist-graduates from these study groups into the Academy of Cosmetic and Adhesive Dentistry (ACAD). This allows long-term clinical monitoring of restorative materials in dental practices by similarly trained operators. They play an active role in evaluating
materials and techniques through their participation.

Dr. Albers is editor of the ADEPT Report, a highly acclaimed quarterly newsletter to update dental professionals on advances in adhesive and cosmetic dentistry.

In 1994 Dr. Albers was named the "Weclew Hononary Fellowship" from the Academy of General Dentistry. It is the highest recognition the Academy of General Dentistry has to honor dentists who have made outstanding contributions to the Art and Science of dentistry and demonstrating exceptional interest in the advancement of Dentistry.

Dr. Albers maintains a private practice in Santa Rosa, California, where he has lived since 1978.
