Case from Paul Marshall, DMD
UCSF Study Group 1998-2000:
Bulima Case/ Alex Patino, DDS
This case was submitted by Dr. Alex Patino of UCSF's 2nd year Study Group. It is one of the cases to be discussed during Wednesday's 8:00 PM teleconference.
34-year-old female with severely worn occlusion as a result of bulimia. The resulting loss has reduced the vertical dimension. Patient has Class I occlusion and there is 5 mm of freeway space. Bulimia started age 16 and continued into mid-20s. Carious lesions on teeth #4 and #15, both teeth in need of endodontic therapy, ADA type II periodontal status.
Radiographically, normal crestal bone,with normal trabeculation. Sinus with normal anatomy and clarity. Periapical radiolucency apex root tip#18. Completed root canal #8. Missing #1, 16, 17, and 32.
Medical history: non-contributory, patient is in third trimester of second pregnancy.
